Parking Woes

I’m lucky I’m in walking distance of Davis Square if I need something down there. But what are drivers to do if they need to shop there? There are two municipal lots that are filled up quickly. There are still a handful of meters scattered around the square. My go to spots are across from Redbones on Chester St.

if you survived the recent storm, you may have had trouble finding a parking spot. There was parking in school lots during the posted emergency times. It’s certainly a challenge to grab these few spaces. As the city keeps trying to help the pedestrians and bicycles the drivers find themselves in a battle for parking.

It would be great if the city added public parking instead of taking more away. You can’t even stop in front of a corner store to run in for a lottery ticket. Pretty soon we will all be on bikes or on foot.

Especially during a snow emergency, it’s first come first serve. There’s a battle for the few spots around the city. Then you have a time limit in when you have to move your car.

Here are your thoughts:

“Fkg ridiculous! We had an open space in front of our house and the person who came to take that parking space told us he lives on Winter Hill and drove up and down the streets until he found the open space here, Powderhouse area! All the spaces taken away number in the hundreds! Some of us cannot ride bikes!”

“Growing up in Somerville parking was relatively easy, we lived right around the corner from Post 19 and dad was a member. He parked in their parking lot.”

“Goodness gracious, is winter ‘25 gonna be the big debate of parking in a Somerville driveway? My parents’ driveway is 9 feet across. Good luck in parking these big SUVs in it. Not to mention siblings who crashed into the house because they don’t know how to back up.”

Don’t put out any good furniture to save a parking space. Those days are over.

More cars, more construction and fewer parking spots is a growing problem. Hang in there.

Jimmy – the city does not care about you. Nor does this “all inclusive” mayor.

“There was parking in school lots during the posted emergency times.” Is this accurate? From what I’ve seen whenever there’s a snow emergency the city can’t lock up those school lot gates fast enough.
