Construction for phase one of the Winter Hill Schoolyard project is scheduled to begin on the Thurston St. level on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. The first phase involves transferring the asphalt court on the lower level into a turf playing field. This field responds to the needs of the school’s Physical Education program and recess use and creates additional community capacity for small fields as called for in the City’s Athletic Fields Master Planning Staff Report from June 2016.

Meals on Wheels is one of the best-known supports for older adults in America. The program operates in nearly every community nationwide, providing nutritious food in part through funding from the Older Americans Act. Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) offers the program to people age 60 and older, and also to younger people with disabilities who live in elderly/disabled housing.

Family Fun Day set for June 24, Fireworks June 29 both at Trum Field.
Summertime in Somerville officially kicks off with the annual Family Fun Day in on Saturday, June 24, from noon to 4 p.m. at Trum Field (rain date June 25). “Summertime in Somerville” events run from June until September with a variety of free events open to people of all ages. Following Family Fun Day, the City will host its annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration at Trum Field on Thursday, June 29 (rain date July 6), beginning with live entertainment at 6:30 p.m.
