Wyn Cooper has published five books of poems, most recently Mars Poetica. His work has appeared in Poetry, Ploughshares, Slate, and more than 100 other magazines, as well as in 25 anthologies of contemporary poetry. His poems have been turned into songs by Sheryl Crow, David Broza, and Madison Smartt Bell. He has taught at Bennington College, Marlboro College, the University of Utah, and at The Frost Place, and has given readings throughout the United States as well as in Europe and South America. He is a former editor of Quarterly West, and the recipient of a fellowship from the Ucross Foundation. He worked for two years at the Harriet Monroe Poetry Institute, a think tank run by the Poetry Foundation, and now lives in Somerville, Massachusetts, where he works as a freelance editor.

There will be a Public Hearing before the Board of Aldermen’s Committee on Finance on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at 6:00 PM, in the Aldermen’s Chambers, 2^nd Floor, City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue, on the Order of Finance Committee Chairman Alderman William White, Jr., for public input on the proposed FY 2019 budget.

Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) has awarded a pair of John O’Neill Scholarships to help support the higher education of local students this fall.

On Thursday, June 21, at approximately 11:10 p.m., the first of many panicked neighbors, parents, and children began flooding 911 operators with calls of a large group assailants attacking a Somerville student on the normally quiet Munroe St.

On this, the last day of School for Somerville Students, Maria Curtatone – Middlesex County Register of Deeds, sister of Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone, and proud mother of two children – decided to open her home to the community’s children for a last day of school celebration on Munroe St. Reliable “on scene” sources report that approximately 50 Somerville students were invited to this party.

EPA and MassDEP are active on this project and working to assist us as we continue with our assessment, and we took several important steps forward last week.

Each agency sent a representative to the site last week for a joint walk-about to inform their requirements for further testing. The visit was important progress. With EPA and MassDEP guidance, our Licensed Site Professional, Weston & Sampson, is finalizing a plan for the next phase of required testing.
