The 2018 Summer Meals program began on July 2. Free breakfast and lunch prepared by Somerville’s award-winning Food and Nutrition Services Department will be available all summer for youth under the age of 19.

Somerville’s Fourth of July holiday schedule

On Wednesday, July 4, City offices will be closed for the Fourth of July. Starting on July 4, trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will be on a one-day delay for the rest of the week. There won’t be street sweeping and parking meters and resident permit parking enforcement won’t be in effect.

Somerville YMCA CIT/LIT Job Readiness Program

Plenty of spaces are still open for our second session of the Somerville CIT/LIT Job Readiness program.  The program serves approximately twenty four, 13-15 year olds in a 4 weeklong session. With partnership from the Somerville YMCA, Somerville Community Youth Program, Healey Community School and the Teen Empowerment Program this motivational program provides youth leadership, team building, and job readiness training activities.

The 2018 Farmers’ Market coupons are coming soon

The Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) Nutrition program is distributing free farmers’ market coupons for eligible older adults the week of July 16. Available through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the $25 coupons can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at area farmers’ markets.
