Free boys basketball clinics for grades 4–8

Somerville Parks & Recreation is offering boys’ basketball clinics through the end of October for students in grades 4-8. All clinics are free and will be held in the Somerville High School Field House from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Clinics will be conducted by the SHS basketball coaching staff and the Somerville Tradition basketball coaches.

Police officers were dispatched to American Fresh Brewhouse at Assembly Row at approximately 3:20 a.m. last Wednesday in response to motion alarms being activated.

Upon arrival, the officers spotted a female exiting the establishment, later identified as Amy McGregor of Medford.

In the summer of 1969, when I had just turned 16, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid and True Grit was at the movies. I Dream of Jeannie, Star Trek and Gomer Pyle were on TV (Golly!).

Some of my friends were making plans to drive to New York for a huge rock festival in Woodstock. I couldn’t go because I had to work at F.W.  Woolworth’s Five and Ten Store in Davis Square.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month Candlelight Vigil

The Somerville Commission for Women and RESPOND held their annual Candlelight Vigil to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Wednesday, October 3, in recognition of those whose lives were lost to domestic violence in Massachusetts over the past 12 months. This is done by reading their names and observing a moment of silence. Community service providers were also in attendance to discuss available services.
