Let the rejoicing commence! The  Annual Boston Christmas Cavalcade for the Homeless will take place at the ONCE Ballroom at 156 Highland Ave., Somerville on Wednesday, December 19. All performer proceeds go to benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition.

This event, along with a version on Cape Cod, has, over the past decade and a half, become a great seasonal live music tradition, and kind of a homecoming for many of the area’s finest musicians.

Arnold “Bud” Knox  Jr. Of Lexington, formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of 70 years to Evelyn M. (Taintor) Knox. Devoted father of Jeffrey A. Knox and his wife Carolyn of Milford; Barry J. Knox and his wife Marie of Dover, NH; and Wendy E. (Knox) Costello and her husband Joseph of Lexington. Loving Poppa to Rachel and her husband Tom, Katie and her husband Christian, Christopher and his wife Caitlyn, Julie and her husband Michael, Brendan, Joey, Catherine, Jenna, Jackie and her husband Joseph, Alison, and Jeffrey. Detour Between Dane St. and the Somerville Ave./Washington St. Intersection Delayed 

Part of ongoing Somerville Ave. Utility & Streetscape Improvements Project, work zone will require detour for through traffic for approximately six months. Access to businesses will be maintained.

Due to delays with necessary, ongoing Eversource Electric work, the next phase of construction for the Somerville Ave. Utilities & Streetscape Improvements project initially scheduled for November 2018, has been delayed until early 2019. No detour will be implemented in Union Square for this project in December.

Join city staff on Wednesday, December 12, at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Library, 79 Highland Ave. for the fourth in a series of public quarterly meetings where updates about parking changes, new data collection, and strategies for impact mitigation will be discussed. All interested persons are encouraged to come including residents and local business owners, as well as city and school staff. 2019 meeting dates will be announced soon.

Rebecca Kopycinski grew up in Lowell, MA, runs a video making business, and is a multimedia and performance artist. She speaks with the calm reflectiveness of someone skilled at introspection.

“I’m very fortunate with my business, I have a lot of flexibility and freedom, and I have many clients with missions I believe in. Of course, there’s also work for tech companies that offsets the non-profits, but I feel fortunate I have the talent to help promote missions I believe in.”

Somerville has been a hotbed for small press publications for decades. From indie comics, to poetry chapbooks, to zines, to left-wing political publications – our 4 square miles have produced far more than what you’d expect.

The Somerville Public Library is proud to partner with the Somerville Media Center to create a display of some of these works. Come to the Media Center, and you’ll see some of what SPL has in its Local History and Local Small Press and Zine collections.
