A reported drive-by shooting that occurred on Greenville St. Monday night at around 9:00 p.m. has prompted a search for a suspect by Somerville Police and authorities in neighboring communities.

According to reports, that the sought after suspect fired several shots from their car at another vehicle before fleeing the scene.

All-day shuttle buses replace Green Line trains between Lechmere and North Station started on May 24,  for approximately one year.

The Green Line Extension (GLX) project is reminding customers that Green Line service between Lechmere and North Stations is replaced with shuttle buses every day  for approximately one year to accomplish work as part of the Green Line Extension project (GLX) and the Green Line Transformation Program (GLT): the closure, relocation, and complete replacement of Lechmere Station and work to demolish, relocate, and reconstruct sections of the Lechmere Viaduct.

City’s Shared Streets Pilot to begin next month

Additional measures planned to aid contactless pickup and social distancing. The Somerville Shared Streets plan prioritizes creating routes that connect residents to critical services.

In late May, the City of Somerville will begin a Shared Streets pilot program in an effort to provide more walking and biking routes that allow for social distancing. Routes will connect residents to essential services like food distribution sites, medical facilities, and grocery stores. The Shared Streets initiative opens up low-volume or residential side-streets to pedestrians, cyclists, and other users while still allowing vehicle access for residents of the street, first responders, delivery drivers, sanitation trucks, and street sweepers.

It was a wonderful gesture that helped to make Max’s day a special one, especially in light of the restrictions that social distancing have imposed. The Zasloff family is very grateful for the departments’ kind generosity.

Somerville Memorial Day observances and safety

Please join us on Monday to reflect on and honor our fallen service members, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, and to recognize our Gold Star families and their continued sacrifice.

Due to COVID-19, Somerville Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies and observances must shift to safer activities. Mayor Joe Curtatone and City Council President Matt McLaughlin will join Commander of VFW Dilboy Post 529 Bob Hardy, Michael Sullivan representing Disabled American Veterans Chapter 27, and Commander of American Legion Post 19 Norman Furtado, along with a small group of local Veterans and friends for an otherwise non-public Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony that will be held with social distancing and recorded for the general public.

Meals on Wheels driver Nancy Green hefts a pair of delivery bags during morning pickup at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES). The SCES Meals on Wheels program has added new delivery routes since March, due to increased demand.

The Coronavirus pandemic has created new challenges for all of us. Helping older adults through this difficult time is our top priority at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES).

Many of the older adults we connect with have voiced concerns about food insecurity. Our Aging Information Center has received many requests for help in this department, so we thought this would be a good time to share some resources that connect elders with food during Coronavirus.
