Somerville playgrounds are open

Somerville playgrounds are open with strict rules aimed at minimizing the spread of COVID-19. Caretakers are responsible for assuring children are following social distancing rules and wearing face coverings if over the age of two. If a playground is too crowded for social distancing, users should wait or come back at another time. The Department of Public Works will adhere to CDC recommendations for cleaning the city’s playgrounds on a weekly rotation, weather-permitting. Playgrounds will need to be closed during cleaning. Please be patient.

Red Line Update: Shuttle buses replacing service between Harvard and Alewife due to a medical emergency at Davis. Shuttle buses have departed from Harvard and Alewife and more have been dispatched.

Measuring the impact of elder services during COVID-19

Meals on Wheels is one of several SCES programs that has provided vital assistance for local older adults throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. Referrals to the program rose by 23% from March to May.

As part of a continuing conversation on systemic racism in Somerville, the City of Somerville is holding a virtual Town Hall Discussion on Race and Equity in Policing and launching a series of small group listening sessions for residents. Tackling systemic racism in Somerville requires input from diverse voices in our community, and both the Town Hall and listening sessions are meant to be ways for the city to get feedback, ideas, and suggestions from the community on how we move forward as well as to answer related questions.
