Cirque Us is thrilled to be performing their award-winning show “Cirque Us Stories” at the Arts at the Armory on September 4 and 5. 

“Cirque Us Stories” is a new, thoughtfully curated show that flips through the pages of our troupe’s favorite stories to bring you a touching, thrilling narrative about community and identity. Interweaving a collection of folktales, classic literature, children’s stories, modern fiction, and more, this show jumps off the page with twists, flips, rewrites, and retellings of stories you’ll love. The show features aerialists, jugglers, acrobats, contortionists, clowns, and more, all ready to fly off the shelf and straight to you.

On a beautiful Thursday afternoon in Magoun Square, in walked the sharply dressed Johe Posada, owner of La Posada. He rode to the restaurant on his motorcycle, with a dark blue blazer and clean-shaven face, and was ready to entertain. I had a chance to speak with Johe about how his business began, the changing concept of La Posada beyond his El Salvadorian roots, and their expansion of outdoor and indoor dining.

Thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Somerville and its generous volunteers, Somerville students were treated fresh backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming school year. ~Photos courtesy of Kiwanis Club of Somerville. 

For the fifth year, members of the Kiwanis Club of Somerville delivered over 200 backpacks filled with school supplies for distribution to high school students who are most in need of assistance. The students who will receive these backpacks will be identified by the staff at Somerville High School and the administrators at Prospect Hill Academy. 

East and West Branch Library Hours Remain Unchanged

But even more important than school supplies may be making sure your child is feeling emotionally and mentally ready to start the school year.

Transparency is a key progressive value, and one I take very seriously. It should be easy to see what your elected official achieved during their term — what they proposed, with whom they partnered, and what they successfully passed into law or into the state budget. But it isn’t easy. In fact, it’s virtually impossible. Unless, like me, you’ve spent years learning how to decipher state websites, state budgets and the legislative process as a staffer in the State House.

Even though I have been out of school for over 33 years, there is something about this time of year that makes me nervous. I write about this condition every year because it is a recurring ailment. It’s like a rash that returns once a year at the same time. Although I know the importance of school and education, and all that jazz, I still get butterflies in my stomach around the middle of August. School still makes me uneasy. I have also been having the same dream for years. I am still in high school trying to graduate. In the dream, I am usually in my pajamas, and there is a teacher tormenting me.
