I talked with Amanda Hill, the artist who created the wonderful mural at the Cambridge Health Alliance site in Somerville. A lot has been written about the mural, but I wanted to get a little more about the artist, in her own words. From her website:

Reza Tokaloo is a poet, writer – and recent transplant from Somerville to Brattleboro, Vermont – and digital-electronic music composer and performer. Tokaloo has published poetry and fiction in print and online in the Somerville area since 2009, and in southern Massachusetts since the early–late 1990’s. He has also returned to creating and composing his own brand of electronic music blending his love of poetry, fiction and philosophy under the name Mesh Ensemble Muzik (located on Soundcloud).

Starting on Tuesday, September 15, and continuing through Friday, October 9, 2020 (excluding weekends), the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will implement a closure of the Mystic River Greenway in the City of Somerville at Blessing of the Bay Park from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to accommodate pathway reconstruction work. Proper signage will be posted and alternative routes for pathway users will remain available along Shore Drive.

As of September 11th, 70.5% of Somerville residents have self-responded to the 2020 U.S. Census online or by phone. But everyone must be counted! If you have not yet responded, go to my2020census.gov or call 844-330-2020 to complete the Census in just 10 minutes. It’s up to all of us to make sure that 100% of Somerville residents are counted in the 2020 Census so that we all receive equal representation in government and essential funding for education, public health, housing and so much more.

Living independently is important to “Stella,” but at age 78 she had growing concerns about making it work. Her eyesight was failing, making it difficult to read mail and pay bills. 

Alone in her Somerville apartment, she needed help – and found it through the Money Management program at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES).

Due to critical maintenance work, 311 will be unable to accept phone calls from 6:00 p.m. tonight until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. 

Today Mayor Joe Curtatone, Fire Chief Charles Breen, Police Chief David Fallon, City Council President Matthew McLaughlin, State Representative Christine Barber and Rev. Paul Coughlin from St. Raphael’s Parish gathered in Davis Square to honor those whose lives were lost on 9/11.
