Update: Snuggles the dog was found safe.

The Somerville Police Department is seeking any information about a vehicle involved in a Tuesday, December 22, crash. At around 7:52 a.m. a 9-year-old boy was struck at Broadway and Walnut Street while walking his dog. He sustained minor injuries. The driver did not remain on the scene and police are looking for information that will help identify them. The vehicle allegedly involved in the crash is described as a gold-colored passenger car and it was seen heading east on Broadway.

Today, the Baker-Polito Administration announced further restrictions to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth, including new capacity and gathering limits. These measures will go into effect on Saturday, December 26 and will remain in effect until noon on January 10, 2021.

Representative Mike Connolly of Somerville and Cambridge will speak at today’s meeting

Over 20 organizations and nearly 300 physicians, state legislators, community and public health leaders have signed an open letter urging Governor Baker and Massachusetts Legislators demanding a comprehensive response to the current surge of COVID-19. Implementing new stringent public health protections would  help Massachusetts residents comply with public health directives. Davis Square exhibit focuses on Somerville trees

“Noticing the trees around us — on our commutes, in our yards, parks, or neighborhoods — is the first step to valuing them,” and the rationale behind a Somerville tree-themed photo exhibit entitled R.O.O.T. (Recognizing Our Oldest Trees), now on display in the Inside-Out Gallery, the outdoor gallery beside the Davis Square CVS, where it can be viewed safely from the sidewalk.

Somerville snow emergency to end Friday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m.

Suspected shoplifter resists to the end

A Somerville Police officer on duty and assigned to uniform patrol of Assembly Row last Thursday spotted a man known to him as Rachid Belhadj walking past LegoLand.

Belhadj is reportedly well known by Somerville police for shoplifting from retail establishments. The officer also had knowledge that Belhadj was wanted for multiple arrest warrants at the time.
