Walk-in vaccine clinic (Pfizer) June 9, Clarendon Hill Towers

A walk-in clinic for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be held Wednesday, June 9, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Clarendon Hill Towers at 1372 Broadway (the Administration Building). No appointment is necessary, but if you prefer you can pre-register at somervillema.gov/vaccine. The clinic is free, and open to all people 12 years or older, regardless of immigration status or health insurance. Identification is not required. All minors must have parent or guardian permission. Anyone 12-15 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Permission forms will be available onsite, or you can download one here. If you need assistance, please call 311 (617-666-3311).

 

Somerville landlords and realtors are invited to join the city’s Office of Housing Stability for a virtual workshop about the benefits of renting to Section 8 tenants. Learn how Section 8 ensures stable rental income, how higher payment standards can lead to higher rent receipts, and how landlords and realtors can qualify for additional incentive payments and technical support through the city’s SomerVIP program.

Somerville High School Class of 2021 graduation took place tonight at Dilboy Stadium.

 

Del Ponte Square on Elmwood St, across from the family home.

This summer, the Somerville Veteran’s Commission on Monuments, Memorials, and Dedications will begin accepting applications to honor living Veterans by dedicating a street corner in their name.

Historically, only deceased Veterans have been honored this way. Somerville will be the first community in Massachusetts to extend this honor to living Veterans. The announcement was made during the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans’ Cemetery.

Obituary: Anthony R. Cota Sr.

Cota, Anthony R. “Tony” Sr. – of Methuen formerly of North Reading, Reading and Somerville passed June 6th surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer and kidney disease.

Born in Somerville, MA, Anthony was the son of the late Anthony F. Cota and A. Adeline (Bocchino). Anthony attended Somerville Schools then went on to graduate St. John’s Prep. He always talked about his time at St. John’s proudly and would extend his hand always when someone would mention they were also an alumni or current Student.  He followed in his father’s footsteps and graduated from New England Institute of Embalming and carried on the family business after his father’s untimely death in 1968. Many people don’t know that Anthony also worked for many years as a deputy sheriff in Middlesex County working in prisoner transport, a job he loved and talked about frequently.

Bill Aims to Address Disproportionate Impact of Fines, Reduce Collateral Consequences of Criminal System Based Solely on Finances Resources

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, State Representative Joseph McGonagle and Senator Sal DiDomenico have filed a bill that would require the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) to allow any individual the option, upon request, of entering into an installment plan to pay fines or fees owed due to license suspension or revocation. The bill An Act Relative to Operating After Suspended License Offenses (H3535S2307), addresses the disproportionate impact of administrative fee structures that can be excessively punitive and lead to unintentional collateral consequences and further involvement in the criminal system.

Carnaval returns to kick off SomerStreets this weekend

SomerStreets: Carnaval returns to shake up East Somerville

The SomerStreets 2021 season will start in a modified format, featuring a series of smaller events on Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6 (rain dates June 12 and 13). Performances will be limited to 150 attendees, and most will require a ticket to attend. Tickets are free, but attendees will need to preregister through the Somerville Arts Council at somervilleartscouncil.org/somerstreets.
