City of Somerville’s Mobile Farmers Market begins July 9

The Somerville Mobile Farmers Market will begin its 2021 season on July 9. On Fridays and Saturdays until October 16, customers can buy fresh, local produce in neighborhoods around Somerville. The Mobile Market offers a 50% discount for any customers that need it and accepts cash, debit, credit, SNAP, P-EBT, WIC farmers market coupons, and senior farmers market coupons for payment. Any customers who shop and pay full price help the Mobile Market offer the discount to those who need it.

Shooting at Canal Lane

On June 24 at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Somerville Police responded to the parking lot area at the rear of 10-30 Canal Lane for a gunshot detection alert of seven shots being fired. Police recovered seven shell casings in that area and located two vehicles with ballistic damage.

The 2021 farmers’ market coupon season is here

Somerville Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) is providing farmers’ market coupons for eligible older adults, starting in early July. 

Coordinated through the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture, the program provides eligible older adults with $25 in coupon vouchers to purchase locally grown produce at participating farmers’ markets.  Coupons can be used to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey.

Walk-in vaccine clinic Sunday at Saint Benedict Parish

A walk-in clinic for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be held Sunday, June 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Saint Benedict Parish at 25 Arlington Street. No appointment is necessary, but if you prefer you can pre-register at somervillema.gov/vaccine. The clinic is free, and open to all people 12 years or older, regardless of immigration status or health insurance.

Identification is not required. All minors must have parent or guardian permission. Anyone 12-15 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Permission forms will be available onsite, or you can download one here. If you need assistance, please call 311 (617-666-3311).

 

The City of Somerville’s Licensing Commission is seeking one Somerville resident to fill a vacancy on the three-member board. Commissioners serve three-year terms and earn a stipend of $3,600 per year. Meetings are held monthly, typically Monday evenings at 6:00 p.m.

Organized by the Somerville Arts Council (SAC), ArtBeat is a festival celebrating Somerville’s local art community. In its thirtieth year, ArtBeat will be held on July 10 at 7 Hills Park, a few blocks away from Davis Square.

Outstanding students win Somerville Math Fund scholarships

The Somerville Math Fund was pleased to be able to award four year renewable scholarships to these outstanding math and science students. The Somerville Mathematics Fund is pleased to announce the winners of their renewable mathematics scholarships for 2021. The Math Fund was founded to celebrate and encourage math achievement and these students deserve to be celebrated for their work in math and science while in high school. Thanks to the generosity of many individuals and a few organizations, this year we were able to award a record 10 scholarships, totaling $60,000 over four years.
