This is the largest Brazilian cultural event in New England, and is organized by the community for the community with a lot of help from volunteers. This year, the festivities will be held from September 3rd to the 8th, and there will be plenty of activity. Massachusetts is home to one of the largest and most organized Brazilian communities in the United States.

Benford to depart dual roles as Boston Housing Authority Police Chief and Boston Chief of Emergency Management to lead Somerville PD
Mayor Katjana Ballantyne announced today the selection of Boston’s Shumeane Benford as the City of Somerville’s new police chief. After a thorough community-driven, nationwide search, Benford will assume leadership of the Somerville Police Department on September 16. The 30-year law enforcement veteran will be departing current dual roles as Boston Housing Authority Police Chief as well as Boston Chief of Emergency Management.

Author and Salem State Professor Emeritus Nancy Schultz explores the tensions over class, gender, religion, ethnicity, and education that fueled the convent’s destruction at Aeronaut Brewery.
Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the City of Somerville’s Department of Racial and Social Justice (RSJ) are sharing an opportunity for community members to join the vital work of the City’s Anti-Displacement Task Force (ADTF) by contributing their experiences with displacement for a public video series the ADTF is creating to show how displacement affects real people in Somerville and why anti-displacement efforts are so important to helping our community stay together.

Former Red Sox stars Lou Merloni and Jonathan Papelbon will play in the 30th annual Abbot Financial Management Oldtime Baseball Game on Thursday, August 22 at St. Peter’s Field in Cambridge. The pregame program begins at 7:00 p.m.
The game is being played as a fundraiser for The Boston Home, a non-profit residence and national resource for adults with advanced neurological disorders, primarily multiple sclerosis.

I have lived in Davis Square since 2011. Davis Square is filthy and the problem gets worse annually.
The Davis Square area is the home base for several unhoused people. I believe that if we appropriately incentivize a few of Davis’ unhoused population, we can clean-up Davis Square. If this experiment works, it could have ramifications beyond Davis Square.
