On Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at approximately 7:42 p.m., Somerville E911 received a call stating that a person had been shot and the shooter was still on scene. Officers Christopher Collette and Steven Johnson responded to the scene. Officer Christopher Collette, being first on the scene, observed an individual standing outside the home where the shooting had occurred, holding a semi-automatic firearm. Officer Steven Johnson arrived on location and both Officers proceeded to engage the suspect.

Somerville Police Assault Log July 27 to August 2

Somerville Police respond to assaults
 
On 7/29/21 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Somerville Police responded to a business in the area of Broadway and School St. for report of a past assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that a female customer entered the business and attempted to cash a check. When the female customer was told the check could not be cashed, she assaulted the victim with a plexi-glass barrier. Officers were able to identify the female suspect.

Although both the federal and Somerville eviction moratoriums have been extended, Somerville is urging low- and moderate-income tenants and homeowners struggling to pay their housing costs to seek supports now to avoid later threats to their housing security.

She was just upset

Somerville Police officers were dispatched to a Broadway location on reports of a person inside throwing bottles.

Upon arrival, the officers observed two elderly men attempting to restrain a female party.

The officers took control of the scene and separated everyone. The female was placed in handcuffs for safety reasons because she reportedly continued behaving erratically.

Somerville Poet Dianne Robitaille passes

Dianne Robitaille, wife of Doug Holder, sister of Denise Robitaille, daughter of Edna Robitaille, and sister to Robert Robitaille, passed away at the age of 65. Dianne was a co-founder of the noted small poetry press “Ibbetson Street” founded in Somerville in 1998. For 23 years she helped with the editing and production of many books and magazines that the press put out. An accomplished poet in her own right; she had her work published in the Christian Science Monitor, Bellowing Arc, and many other publications. Dianne published only one collection of her own poetry ” Leaving Only Impressions,” that is archived at the University at Buffalo Poetry Collection. She was the secretary of the New England Poetry Club, under the late Diana Der Hovanessian. Dianne was an accomplished nurse, working at Mass General Hospital, Mt. Auburn Hospital, McLean Hospital, and other agencies with diverse populations. Dianne was also an accomplished photographer and many of her shots appeared on the cover of the poetry journal “Ibbetson Street,” and in The Somerville Times.

 

Commission continues to debate cannabis retailer license

Advesa MA continues its quest to gain approval from the Somerville Licensing Commission to open a retail outlet at 690-694  Broadway.

The City of Somerville Licensing Commission held a special meeting on August 2. The focus of the special meeting was further public debate on the approval of a Group A New Marijuana Retailer License for the cannabis retailer Advesa, MA on Broadway in Ball Square.
