The Assembly Square neighborhood planning process will be unique. Where in other areas the challenge faced by Planning Staff has been to preserve and enhance the most desirable characteristics and potential of an existing neighborhood, here we will focus on realizing Assembly’s full promise as a Transformational Area. This neighborhood also requires that we assess and develop an infrastructure framework suited for the needs and pressures of what is becoming one of Somerville’s major new Regional Centers, an effort that will rest heavily on assessing the status of current infrastructure to ensure it provides support for expected new growth. ‘Holiday Tree’ – a one act play

A pine tree is decorated for the holidays with ornaments but this is no ordinary tree. Each decoration holds an adventure story that will teach a lesson and bring true joy. Using puppets, objects, song, poetry, music and the classic art of storytelling enter the holiday spirit with Evie (portrayed by Charlotte A. Dore) as she shares stories from her life and her imagination that take her on an internal journey from loneliness to resilient joy. A beautifully poetic script with elements of improvisation will allow the show to be customized for each audience.

Food For Free, the Somerville and Cambridge-based non-profit hunger relief organization, was named “Non-Profit of the Year” at the Chamber of Commerce’s 75th Anniversary Annual Dinner and Powderhouse Awards. The dinner, which took place on November 17, is the foremost gathering of local business, civic, and community leaders in the city.

November is National Family Caregivers Appreciation Month – a time to recognize those who provide essential support for their loved ones.

Chances are, you probably know at least one caregiver. A 2018 review of Bureau of Labor statistics by Pew Research found that 15% of adults were providing care for another adult – on average devoting nearly 80 minutes daily to providing assistance.

Man arrested in connection with assault in Middlesex Fells

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Massachusetts State Police Colonel Christopher Mason and Winchester Chief of Police Daniel O’Connell have confirmed that Brady McCue, 28 of Medford has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault and assault and battery of a 48-year-old woman which occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. today near South Border Road on the Medford/Winchester line in the Middlesex Fells Reservation.

Congratulations to the members recognized at the 32nd Annual Firefighter of the Year Award ceremony in Worcester. They received a Citation for Meritorious Conduct and LT Danielle O’Hearn was the receipt of the Medal of Valor for their lifesaving actions at a 3 alarm fire on Kensington Ave last December.

 

Because this winter begins in an odd-numbered year, snow emergency parking will be on the odd side of the street all winter, unless posted signage says differently. Check streets signs in your neighborhood so you know where you can park ahead of winter weather. You can also learn more about the city’s snow policies at somervillema.gov/snow.
