Agreement includes equity-focused paid parental leave, $35K starting para salary

After seven months of collaboration and negotiation, the Somerville School Committee and the Somerville Educators Union (SEU) Units A and C reached an agreement on a bold and innovative proposed new 3-year contract. Last night, Somerville Public Schools teachers and paraprofessionals overwhelmingly ratified the new 3-year agreement that will take them through the 2024-25 school year.

Ensemble Chaconne recreated court and salon music from 1650-1750 France at the Somerville Central library on Thursday, June 9. The event was the group’s second Somerville Salon Series performance. They have one more performance left in the series called Measure for Measure: The Music of Shakespeare’s Plays on Saturday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. Their last performance from the series will take place at the Somerville West Branch Library.

Break-in suspect drops the goods

Somerville Police officers were dispatched to the Food Mart store on Broadway in the early hours of last Sunday on reports of a breaking and entering.

The reporting party provided a description of the suspect to police dispatch, which was then relayed to the responding officers as they were on the way.

It’s getting harder and harder to navigate a car with all the bicyclists throughout Somerville. When I pass a bicycle, I have to basically come out of my lane to avoid hitting them, which puts me in the path of oncoming traffic.

Firehouse Reels Opening Night

Firehouse Reels is the Somerville Museum exhibit of the archives of SCATV, Somerville Community Access Television, the oldest access cable television station in Massachusetts. The speakers include Somerville Mayor Emeritus Gene Brune, Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay, Smitty, and Kate Deming, SMC board member. SCATV is now does business as the Somerville Media Center.

On 6/8/22 at approximately 8:45 p.m., Somerville Police responded to a residence on Newton St. for a past breaking and entering. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victims who stated a contractor entered the home and took HVAC equipment.

I-93 viaduct renovation to begin this summer

Next month, work will begin on the I-93 viaduct in Somerville between exit 21 and Temple Street.

In a June 9 public meeting, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) outlined their plan for the reconstruction project which will take place from summer 2022 to fall 2024.
