Early this evening, firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire of a multi-family home on Broadway in the Teele Sq. area.
With the help of neighbors and firefighters, everyone got out safely. The cause of fire is under investigation.

Call for Entry: Somerville Toy Camera Fest

The Somerville Toy Camera Festival seeks entries for its ninth annual celebration of toy and lo-fi photography.
Images of any subject matter, made with a “toy” camera – any low-tech camera with no or very limited exposure control, such as pinhole, Holga, Diana/Diana clones, Brownie, Ansco, disposable cameras – are eligible. The key criteria are plastic lenses and a lack of reliable exposure control. Straight Polaroid-type images, or images made with cell phones, digital cameras, or film cameras with full exposure control (such as the Lomo LC series), will not be considered.

– Seek out air-conditioning at a Somerville Public Library branch  on Saturday 
– Head to Dilboy Pool (110 Alewife Brook Parkway)  this weekend, 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Somerville celebrates Fourth of July

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Arts Council hosted a Fourth of July fireworks celebration at Trum Field, Thursday, June 30. All ages came out to enjoy a night of festivities starting with DJ Philip Tan followed by Pressure Cooker and the “The Star-Spangled Banner” was sung by Britney Flores. 

 

 

Obituary: Officer Randy R. Isaacs

Randy R. Isaacs, a US Army Veteran, Active Army reserve man, Somerville Police Officer, Somerville native passed away unexpectedly on June  19, 2022 at the age of 41 while on the job protecting the city he loved.Randy is survived by his Mother Sharon Nagarsingh, Father Adrian Calixte, Grand Mother Iris Sanford brother to Nicole Neale, Weldon Tucker, and Kirby Calixte,  and uncle to Nariyha Angline, Natalia Villefranche, Ta Lia Tucker, and Jayden Calixte. and Several other friends and family.

‘KAIT’ Review: An allegory for trans civil rights

KAIT, a play produced at The Rockwell, is an example of what the present looks like in the future while exploring trans rights, oppression, power, love, and sexuality themes faced by minority women. The play brilliantly shines a light on the conversations we will still face in the future if society continues to attack trans women and other minority women.

The drama played from June 23 to June 25 at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St. It will run again from July 14 to July 16 from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
