Bess Paupeck started by gathering clocks and watches for the exhibit she planned in 2019. Paupeck, an artist and museum professional, was not interested in these objects simply for their own sake. Her thinking then was that “these are almost defunct objects -if you keep them, why do you keep them?”

The Somerville Arts Council and the Inside-Out Gallery present Kinetic Explorations of Color, works by Michael Robbins. Find out more about his work by visiting: https://somervilleartscouncil.org/insideout/robbins. Michael Robbins is an artist, psychotherapist, poet, and Qi Gong/Taoist meditation teacher who lives and works out of the Vernon Street Studios in Somerville. As a native of NYC, he was fueled by vast accessibility of art and culture and by growing-up in a creative household. His father, a sculptor, was one of the founders of the Expressive Therapy movement and his mother directs one of the oldest children’s theatres in NYC. The richness and excitement of this environment made a profound impression, influencing Michael’s career and various artistic pursuits.

When I visited the Vernon Street Studios in Somerville for an open house I came across the artwork of Jocelyn Shu. Shu is an eclectic woman, and in addition to creating art, she is a post -doc researcher at Harvard University. She says her art does not explain, but offers the viewer a chance for discovery. Shu exudes a lot of energy, and we had a chance to chat about her confluence of art and science.

Peter Lesses writes: I pursued two degrees in music at Indiana University. Then after living in New Orleans in the 70s, I became interested in rare antiques. I came back and got a Mass. Dealer’s number in 2001 and am presently a jaded 85-year-old volunteer at the Somerville Museum. I wrote a booklet for them, The Somerville, Mass. Dairy Collection, and an article explaining it for Milk Route, the dairy periodical. Their editor forwarded it to The Somerville Times and was printed by them on May 12, 2021. Currently, I hold memberships in the Merrimac Valley Bottle Club in Chelmsford, the Civil War Roundtable of Lynn and the Waltham Stamp Club.
