A citation was presented by Aldermen Katjana Ballantyne, Maryann Heuston, the entire Board and the Mayor commending the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church on the momentous occasion of its 100th anniversary was presented to Fr. Konstantinos Manetas at last week’s regular meeting of the Board.
It seems as though many of us don’t know whether to toss our hats in the air and shout for joy or quietly drown our sorrows at the local tavern. Indeed, though, it’s been reported that many in attendance at the last Board of Aldermen meeting broke into applause after the city’s $50 million contribution to the GLX’s funding was unanimously approved. Cold comfort to others, though.
The news that the Green Line Extension project is not yet dead is actually comforting to many. After all the years of promises and compromises, most of us feel we have it coming.

The Playworks Team Up program has been a great addition to the Brown School over the last several months.
On a recent visit to the school during recess, students and staff were active and engaged in a variety of games using the Playworks Team Up model. First grade students were playing “Everyone’s It Tag” along with their teachers, a game they learned during Class Game Time with their Playworks Site Coordinator, Caroline Barclay.

Kentucky native CD Collins follows the storytelling traditions of the South, both as a solo artist and when accompanied by musicians. Her short fiction collection Blue Land was published by Polyho Press, her poetry collection by Ibbetson Street Press. As one of the originators of the resurgence of spoken word with live music, her work has been archived in four compact discs: Kentucky Stories (winner Best Spoken-Word album Boston Poetry Awards) Subtracting Down, and Carousel Lounge. Her most recent disc, Clean Coal/Big Lie, is currently being released in a series of one-woman shows. Afterheat is her first novel.

The Housing Division of the Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development is currently accepting applications for six (6) affordable rental units offered through the city’s Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance for the development at 315 Broadway. The application deadline is Thursday, December 15, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. The deadline will be followed by a lottery on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in the Aldermanic Chambers located on the second floor of City Hall.
