One of my poetry students at Endicott College has shared a poem. Here is a bit about her background: Mikayla Rose Brasefield (19) is a sophomore Nursing major from Vernon, CT, with a previous history in Creative Writing. She was featured in her high school’s student-written and published magazine, titled War & Pieces (2015), was awarded an honorable mention in the Nancy Thorpe Poetry Contest (2014), and has won several silver medals and a gold medal for some of her poetry/writings in the annual Scholastic Art & Writing Contest. She would like to thank her professor for the opportunity to continue featuring her work and also her friends, family, and boyfriend for always supporting her and giving her constant inspiration.

The Somerville by Design Davis Square Planning Meeting and the Nunziato Stormwater and Park Project Meeting will both take place as planned on Monday, February 13.
The Somerville by Design Davis Square Planning Meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Somerville Baptist Church, 31 College Ave., in Davis Square. It is the first in a series of five meetings open to all community members to help plan next steps for Davis Square development and infrastructure improvements while preserving the square’s character. The countdown to cuts is on. On March 1, the Baker Administration will begin cutting as much as $5.6 million from the Adult Foster Care program. The cuts will continue through the last four months of the fiscal year.
“We are running out of time to protect the elderly and people with disabilities,” said Linda Andrade of the Mass Council on Adult Foster Care. “Adult Foster Care is one of the premier ‘community first’ programs in the Commonwealth. The population in need is growing, and our budget should be growing to meet that need.”

The City of Somerville’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, and the City Engineering Department, invite all interested community members to the next community meeting in a public meeting series to discuss construction updates and park design for the upcoming Nunziato Field Stormwater and Park reconstruction project. The meetings will be held on February 13, and February 22 (see below for details). Nunziato Field and Off-Leash Recreation Area is the location of an important stormwater infrastructure project that will alleviate flooding in the surrounding neighborhood during severe rain. The renovation project will also include installation of a new grass field, dog park, and seating areas.
