A solar eclipse occurs with the moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun. The moon is much smaller than the sun, but because it is so close to the Earth it can appear to partially or complete block the image of the sun.

Bring your glasses, or another eclipse viewer to watch as it moves through it’s path, make eclipse chalk art, and do shadow tracing on the Library’s pathways, and generally enjoy this unique scientific event.

Somerville Police Crime Log March 26 – April 1

Assault
On 3/30/24 at approximately 7:03 p.m., Somerville Police responded to Washington St for report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a witness who stated he observed a female party swinging a cane at another woman. He then stated that he saw a vehicle pull up to them and a male and female exited. The male party then brandished a knife at the woman swinging the cane. The other females and the male then fled the area in the vehicle. Officers located and identified the woman with the cane.

Book review: ‘Cloche and Dagger’ by Jenn McKinlay

At the beginning of the pandemic, I read a slew of cozy mysteries. Partly, the times were too grim for police procedurals, psychological thrillers, or serial killer novels. Partly, the public libraries were closed and people were trading their used books, and a good soul passed along her collection. The Hat Shop Mysteries by Jenn McKinlay were some of my favorites.
