When so many people start complaining and raising the alarms about how badly our beloved Davis Square is doing in terms of upkeep and infrastructure, we all need to wake up and pay attention.

While the city has invested heavily in the development and promotion of various areas such as Assembly Row and Union Square – and justifiably so – the very heart of the downtown community, Davis, has quietly been suffering a slow death of a thousand cuts.

The Center for Arts at the Armory hosting The Moth’s Spring Season in the Armory Performance Hall.  The Moth which started on January 25, 2022, is an acclaimed non-profit organization based in NYC dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling.

Students at the Brown School participated in the Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day, an event that is one of three flagship days organized through MA Safe Routes to School. Co-organizers Kate Melillo, counselor educator, and health and physical education teacher, Sharyn von Trapp, made the event especially fun and engaging by adding a Winter Olympics theme to increase student participation.

Anthony P. Monaco announced last week  that he will be stepping down as president of Tufts University in the summer of 2023.

In a message to the Tufts community, he noted that “there is much I want to achieve over the next year and a half, including successful completion of the Brighter World campaign and continuing to strengthen our academic mission.”

All city offices are closed, Monday, February 21.

Trash and recycling pickup will be delayed by one day.

Somerville Public Schools are closed this week for school vacation.
