Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 2 City Councilor J.T. Scott, Ward 3 City Councilor Ben Ewen-Campen, and the Union Square Community Design Team invite you to a virtual public meeting to share updates on the Union Square Plaza and Streetscape Redesign project.
This transformative public space and infrastructure project will reimagine the Union Square plaza and adjoining streetscapes to better serve the community. Over the summer, the Community Design Team launched a research and engagement campaign and collected feedback from more than 800 people.

Somerville Stands Together, a coalition of community, environmental, and labor organizations will launch its grassroots effort to pass the Fair Share Amendment and oppose Uber, Lyft and other Big Tech companies’ Prop 22 clone ballot measure. Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion (PDM) will be presenting the first of its Queer Cabarets, a part of PDM’s Stones to Rainbows/Gay to Queer Lives project. The three different live cabaret shows take place over two days in the Arts at the Armory Performance Hall, featuring a multi-media arts installation, and area and national LGBTQ+ community members in previously video recorded interviews. Live performers will include members of the Boston-region’s eclectic LGBTQ+ community. Area LGBTQ+ organizations and artisans will also be displaying and selling their wares.

On October 13 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., join MassBike and MassCommute to celebrate a successful Bay State Bike Month and MassCommute Bicycle Challenge with an outdoors party on the new Public Lawn at Assembly Row.
To get in the party mood, they’ll be joined by some musical entertainment A Trike Called Funk and Hot Molasses. They will have food provided by The Smoke Shop BBQ and Night Shift Brewing is offering to donate $2 for every drink, so you can grab a brew and support MassBike.

SCES volunteer Irene Carmen prepares to make deliveries for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).
Offered through a partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank, the program provides two bags of groceries each month. CSFP is open to Cambridge and Somerville residents age 60 and over who meet income eligibility requirements. We are also still seeking Volunteers to help with the program. Medicare plans often change, and because of that it’s important to be mindful of Medicare Open Enrollment, even if you’re satisfied with your current coverage.
The open enrollment period runs from October 15 to December 7, and in most cases it’s the only time of year Medicare recipients can change plans and coverage.

Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) and the Culinary Department at Somerville High School have partnered to offer Grab-and-Go meals this fall.
The meals are free for eligible recipients. Cambridge or Somerville residents over age 60 are eligible, as are spouses and dependents with a disability of eligible people who are receiving a meal.

Join the SomerViva Office of Immigrant Affairs, Padres Latinos, and The Welcome Project for a Latin American Heritage Celebration on Monday, October 11, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., in Chuckie Harris Park. The celebration will include music, food, a talent show, a traditional dress presentation, a piñata, raffles, and stories of everyday heroes in the community.

On Monday, October 11, Somerville celebrates Indigenous People’sDay. City buildings will be closed, trash and recycling pickup delayed by one day. Street sweeping will be skipped that day.
