State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan, Somerville Fire Chief Kevin W. Kelleher and Somerville Police Chief Thomas Pasquarello said last night’s fire at 327 Dickinson Street remains under investigation this morning but it does not appear suspicious in nature. At this stage, the investigative team is focusing on several possible accidental causes.

My last column, “Dear hipster,” seems to have hit some nerves. Readers posted sixty comments on our website, many of them passionate.
But many also indignantly responded to things that I neither said nor intended. I attribute this to a combination of my own failure to communicate and a lot of defensiveness around the topic of gentrification.

Sidekick Soccer Academy is excited to announce that its fall “Kick with Care” program was begun on Saturday, September 14, at Draw Seven Park and will continue throughout the month of October.
“Kick with Care” is an outreach program whereby modifications to the game of soccer are provided so that children with special needs or anxiety and adults with disabilities can enjoy the world’s most popular game on a weekly basis.

Someone knows. Eighteen years have passed since the murder of Deanna Cremin. Seasons have come and gone without justice for a Somerville High School student who loved children, became the neighborhood babysitter, who worked with third graders, volunteered her time with special needs students and aspired to become a preschool teacher. The person who assaulted and killed Deanna three days after her 17th birthday robbed a young woman, her family and this community of a brilliant life that had touched so many others and held such promise for a future that cruelly will never come. Our grief does not subside but relentlessly aches as the years pass, fueled by the terrible knowledge of one fact: Someone knows who killed Deanna Cremin.

Overnight Travel and Field Trip Safety, Security and Environment Focus of SSSR Committee
The Somerville School Committee retained the services of former Middlesex District Attorney and current Nixon Peabody LLP partner Gerry Leone to be the Chairman of their School Safety and Security Review (SSSR) Committee, recently formed in response to matters arising out of a Somerville High School overnight trip that included Somerville High School athletes. The SSSR will review current protocols, procedures, policies and practices for Somerville Public Schools overnight travel and field trips, and make a detailed recommendation to the Somerville School Committee and the Superintendent specific to the planning, implementation and supervision of any student travel, with a focus on safety, security and environment.
