By William Tauro The Massachusetts State 9-1-1 Department mobile emergency response unit which is operated out of the Executive Office of Public Safety & Security Department sits on Merriam Street next to the Somerville Police station. The state of the art fully equipped mobile command unit is set up as a temporary command center while the police station dries up after days of continuous flooding. Flash floods destroyed half the Somerville Police cruisers and motor cycle fleet and flooded the building. |

By Tom Nash The Green Line extension project will not be appearing in time for the federally mandated 2014 deadline, according to a report discussed by the state's Department of Transportation last Friday. Transportation Secretary Jeffrey Mullan has reportedly said the project would be delayed until at least October 2015 as a result of the two-year battle over a plan to place a maintenance facility next to Somerville's Brickbottom artists community. |

As World Cup fever hit a high pitch this month, one Somerville soccer team was busy winning a championship.
The age 12 and under Somerville youth soccer team team won a Commissioner’s Cup title on June 20.
“The city of Somerville should be very proud of their accomplishments and for all the other teams in their division,’ said coach Ali Atti.
Members of the team include Youssef Atti, Miguel Canizalez, Padra Darilus, Wens Dorvil, Jeffery Fernandes, Aman Gabriel, Alejandro Galdamez, Adrian Lainoff, Andre Matos, Lebanos Mengistu, Danny Murphy, Nathan Nebiye, Alec Portelli, Mathew Sousa and Bobby Voutsinas.
To secure the title, Somerville had to beat Woburn and Billerica.
“Everything went against us,’ said Atti. “We got some very unfortunate breaks against us in the Woburn game. We were down 2-0, and the Woburn team had a lot of big and strong guys.”
Facing an early 2-0 deficit, Somerville stormed back and emerged with a 5-4 victory.
“We got off to a slow start and coach [Canizalez] and I had to calm the kids down and have them focus on what they do best, that is playing the ball,” said Atti. “We tied up the game at half time.”
Following the game, Atti was more than pleased with his team’s efforts.
“It was a remarkable game against the Woburn team,” said Atti. “It was a very hard fought soccer game.”
William Tauro Police in Somerville were dispatched to a call at 28 Lake street for a possible train derailment behind Somerville's Market Basket late Saturday afternoon during torrential downpour. The call was first referred to as a derailment but railroad officials were able to back the train out and reroute it to better track. The track route was flooded and determined not passable. No injuries were reported. |

A Friday night motorcycle accident in Somerville left a 29-year-old woman dead and a 37-year-old Somerville man in serious condition, according to police. According to Somerville and State police, the motorcycle crashed into the curb on Route 28 South near Mystic Avenue causing both victims to be thrown from the bike. |
