A woman suspected of stabbing three Somerville police officers before being shot and killed Friday morning on Sycamore Terrace was released from psychiatric care shortly before the attack, according to sources.

Carol Lynn Kingsley, 33, of Somerville, had suffered with mental health and substance issues for years before she was killed Friday, according to friends, court records and neighbors.

One neighbor said Kingsley had been at the center of an incident about six months earlier in which she climbed on to her roof and threatened to jump.

“Her and her boyfriend used to drink and get crazy,” said neighbor Joshua Ramotar. “But whenever they spoke to me, they seemed like nice people. There had been trouble with them before but never anything like this.”

The View From Prospect Hill – 7/28

On July 28, 2010, in Latest News, by The Somerville Times

Salute to Gargoyle’s Chef (and reality show bad boy) Jason Santos for creating buzz in Davis Square.
On Tuesday, Gargoyle’s on the Square was packed as diners watched Santos in Hell’s Kitchen, a kind of Survivor-in-the-kitchen reality show. Santos is one of the final four contestants on the Fox show which drew 7.7 million viewers last week – and he’s made a mark as a reality show character, curling up with a female co-star in a hot tub and delighting viewers with a bold brand of cooking confidence.
Reactions were strong and emotions ran high but Santos survived, to the delight of cheering Gargoyle’s diners watching the show with the star chef.
“This is a social, cultural event for Somerville,” said one Gargoyle’s regular, who insisted the spot was reasonably priced if you catch a special or sign up for the email list.
Somerville needed good news this week – but who knew we’d find one on reality television.

With a 5-0 lead in hand, the Somerville Alibrandis appeared to have notched another victory. Instead, a furious rally by the Brighton Black Sox proved to be the difference as the Alibrandis suffered a heartbreaking 6-5 defeat in Sunday afternoon’s match-up at Rogers Park.

The Alibrandis, who stood at 16-6-1 as of press time, are now seven points out of first place in their men’s summer baseball league division, trailing the Malden Bulldogs (20-4).

“It was a game we should’ve won,” said coach Rob McDonough. “The guys are working hard, but give them [Black Sox] credit. They came back and they were able to get the key hits for the win.”

On the mound, Chris Foundas earned the no decision, tossing five solid innings while allowing four runs before Jay Wisner suffered the loss, allowing two more runs in the sixth.

At the plate, Marc DesRoches led the way offensively, recording two hits along with two walks and an RBI.
