Fatal stabbing under investigation in Somerville

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Somerville Chief of Police David Fallon have confirmed an investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred yesterday at Clarendon Hill Apartments in Somerville.

Yesterday at approximately 3:51 p.m., Somerville Police responded to a report of a stabbing at the apartments located on Alewife Brook Parkway in Somerville. Upon arrival police located the victim, Kesner Junior Lubin, 27, of Somerville, suffering from stab wounds.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim and another resident of the complex, known to the victim, had a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical altercation. During the altercation, Washington Assis-Rodrigues, 26, allegedly stabbed the victim. Lubin was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where was pronounced dead. Assis-Rodrigues remained on scene and was placed under arrest and charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury. He will be arraigned by teleconference tomorrow at Somerville District Court.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and Somerville Police. Additional charges are possible.
