Also on Monday all day from 10am to 6pm at the Holiday Inn on Washington Street, the U.S. Census Bureau is partnering with the Cities of Somerville and Medford to hold a "Job Fair." They will be interviewing for both part and full time positions all day long to perform various tasks related to the taking of the National Census – so if you're looking to make some good money, the pay starts at $16.50 hour to $23.50 hour, depending on the position.

Was a great time this past Saturday, February 27th at the annual Guns and Hoses Hockey game held here in Somerville to help raise funds for Youth Hockey. The game was well attended, but what happened to the Police Department? Guess the Police were shooting blanks, because the Fire Department blew them away – 7 to a big goose egg.

Coming up real fast is another popular event that's been happening here in Somerville for the past few years, the annual 5Km Ras na hEireann USA race or "The race of Ireland & United States of America." It starts in Davis Square on Sunday, March 14th – at this point it's to late to register for the race, which by the way for the past several years has been sold out and over 5,000 runners participate. Davis Square will be the place to be and that's no blarney.

Did anyone notice the large number of chain link fence truckloads that got delivered to the MBTA yard in Sullivan Square at the rotary recently? Sources tell us that the huge supply is slated to be used soon and is reserved for Somerville's Green Line Extension project as it begins to move forward.

Rumor has it that a popular employee of the Somerville Fire Department is considering a future political run for an Alderman-at-Large seat. It is also rumored the all that all his brother and sister firefighters, as well as a few comrades in blue are in support of the move – but that's in the future… We still hope that our local Legislators who are up for re-election this year get some competition… In this climate of high taxes and FEES (some say fees are just another word for taxes) that our Representatives and Senator keep pushing on us, the taxpayers, no politician should be UN-opposed.

Bread & Company on Winter Hill in the mall is going to be getting a facelift and will soon be changing its name to Brunello Bistro to capture the appetite of the Somerville dining crowd and to make them aware that the new restaurant isn't just all breakfasts and to help focus towards more of a dinner crowd atmosphere. Some Newstalkers eat there often and can tell you the food is fantastic – we wish them best of luck.

Speaking of food, too bad it was raining last Wednesday morning… Fox 25's VB was here at Buddy's Truck Stop on Washington Street – and although small and in need of a new sign, don't let the cover of that book fool you. It's another Somerville breakfast place that is in the top 3 best. Any of the regulars will tell you that it's friendly, always cheerful and the food is the best.

Meanwhile down at the Police Station, the new Acting Chief Mike Cabral – we hear is doing a great job and has been seen everywhere. We hear that the Police Department under his short tenure of about a month now has been very easy going and we wish him the best of luck.

On Tuesday, March 10th Prospect Hill Academy's Journeys and Destinations fundraising event will host an "evening to benefit our Junior Journey program." Join them and meet and interact with PHA students, enjoy the hors d'oeuvres, drinks and dessert, participate in an exciting silent auction and listen to Latin rhythms. Tickets are $100.00 and the event is being held at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center, 41 Second Street, Cambridge.

At the end of the month – on Saturday the 27th – again the local Masonic Lodges here in Somerville will be hosting an "Open House" from 9am to 3pm. They will join over 250 Masonic buildings throughout Massachusetts that day in opening up their doors and giving tours and answering any questions that the public might have. We are very fortunate to have two Masonic Lodges here in Somerville – with a combined membership of about 500 members. King Solomon's Lodge, which dates back to 1783, and Somerville Lodge, which will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary next year.
