A 2-alarm fire broke out at 69 Merriam Street,  Somerville late Monday afternoon. Fire fighters arrived with heavy fire showing from a third story front porch. The fire extended to the third floor apartment and along the gutter areas.

With the temperature rising, firefighters worked extensively to subdue the fire. The Cambridge Fire Department assisted at the scene while other departments occupied the stations for coverage.

The occupants have been displaced. As of this report, they are being assisted.

No injuries were reported. Somerville and state fire investigators are being called in to search for the cause.
