Whatever one’s feelings may be regarding the relative merits of the city’s SomerStreets events, one thing is clear: a good number of people end having a really great time for themselves.
For many, the best is saved for last. That, of course, is embodied in the Monster Mashed-Up event that brings out the kid in everyone who gets involved.
Whether one gets elbow-deep into the power tool pumpkin carving exhibition, the costume parade, Milk Row Cemetery tours, or any number of other fun activities, there is surely something for anyone and everyone to enjoy.
Some bemoan the many street closures that take place throughout the year for similar events, road races, etc. There are valid points of view on both ends of the issue. It only seems reasonable, though, to partake in the festivities as long as they are there for the partaking. A little giving in can feel good, in comparison to not participating at all.
For those who enjoy these types of events, this closing edition of SomerStreets serves as a fun and festive farewell to the series and a somewhat melancholy reminder that the cold wintery months will soon be upon us.
And don’t forget to take the kids to the annual Haunted Hall event at City Hall, taking place this year from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 24.
Let’s get out there and enjoy the best days of the season while they are here.
