While on full uniformed directed patrol of the Healey School last Thursday, a Somerville Police officer noticed a motor vehicle occupied by two individuals.

The officer queried the license plate tag and was notified the car was reported stolen. The officer radioed his location to police dispatch and multiple units responded as back up.

The officer made contact with the man in the driver’s seat and explained to him the car was reported stolen. The man was reportedly uncooperative at first and refused to identify himself.

The officer ordered the man out of the vehicle and he was placed into handcuffs. The officer recognized the man as Hamza Warsame from past incidents. The officer ordered the female passenger from the vehicle as well.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a passport belonging to Warsame. There was also a credit card in the center console with the same name.

Warsame reportedly told the officers that he paid a friend cash for the rental car. He claimed he only knew his friend by name and had no further information.

According to reports, Warsame stated that all of the property in the car was his, and police allowed the female passenger to take possession of his personal belongings at his request. She reportedly told the officers they had been driving around in the car for about a week. She said he was using it while he visited his family.

Warsame could not provide any paper work or rental agreement. He said that his friend took all the paper work with him when he took possession of the car.

Warsame was placed under arrest and transported to the Somerville Police Station where he was booked on charges of use of a motor vehicle without authority and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
