Jon DiBiaso simply made life miserable for the Somerville defense Friday night. The Everett quarterback passed for 241 yards along with five touchdowns as Everett cruised to a 42-14 win over the Highlanders at Everett Stadium.
With the loss, the Highlanders clinch a losing season, while falling to 2-6 and 1-2 in the GBL while Everett remains unbeaten at 8-0 overall.
“We just couldn’t find a way to stop him,” said Somerville coach Harry Marchetti. “We played well in the early going, but they were able to turn things up a notch.”
In the opening minutes of the game, the Highlanders grabbed a 7-0 lead as Joshua Scarry delivered a two-yard plunge into the end zone.
Battling back, the Crimson Tide quickly tied the contest as Rob DeLuca hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from DiBiaso.
Following a defensive stand by the Crimson Tide, DiBiaso once again surgically maneuvered his squad downfield, finishing off a scoring drive with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Vondell Langston.
With momentum on their side, the Crimson Tide led 21-7 at halftime after Manny Asprilla fought off several defenders at the corner of the field, hauling in a 42-yard touchdown pass from DiBiaso.
In the third quarter, the Crimson Tide continued to torch the Highlanders secondary, creating another quick drive as Matt Costello overcame several defenders and finished off a 21-yard touchdown pass from DiBiaso.
With the game in hand, the Crimson Tide extended the lead to 35-7 as DiBiaso completed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Asprilla, who hauled in his second of the contest.
Scarry, who handed the Highlanders an early 7-0 lead, added his second score of the night with a four yard touchdown plunge into the end zone, cutting the lead to 35-14.
In the fourth quarter, the Crimson Tide capped the scoring as Jakarrie Washington finished off a quick moving drive with a 19-yard scamper into the end zone.
With the Highlanders falling into fourth place in the GBL, they’ll aim to regroup when they face-off against Cambridge Rindge and Latin Friday night at Dilboy Field.
“Everett is one of the best teams in the state,” said Marchetti. “We held our own in the first half, but they were able to take over. We just have to put this behind us and focus on our next opponent.”
