Ball Square Festival planned for 9/22; Gilman Square Block Party set for 9/28
Construction for the Green Line Extension Project (GLX) is in full force, and the City of Somerville has partnered with local organizations to host events at locations for several of the future GLX stations. Please join us for the following events this month, and stay tuned for additional events as GLX construction continues.
Ball Square Festival September 22
Join the Ball Square Business Association and the City of Somerville in the second annual Ball Square Festival on Sunday, September 22. From noon to 5 p.m. there will be music, activities, food, and a beer garden on Broadway, right in the heart of Ball Square.
The event will include live musical performances from Rachel Raven, Tokyo Tramps, Sweet Wednesday, and others. Participants can grab a beer at The Pub’s beer garden and food from participating restaurants like House of Kebab, Taco Party, and True Grounds, do arts and crafts with artists at Paperworks, taste some new wines and beers at Ball Square Fine Wines & Liquors, meet kittens up for adoption at Stinky’s Pet Emporium, take fun family photos in the photo booth, welcome Century 21 as they celebrate their new office, and meet many other business owners in the square. New this year will be the Ball Square Festival Scavenger Hunt, which will encourage participants to visit a variety of businesses in order to enter a raffle with wonderful Ball Square prizes. A rain date has been scheduled for September 29.
Join us to support the Ball Square businesses. Because the Broadway Bridge is currently closed, the Bridge Hopper will be providing free shuttle service between Ball Square and Magoun Square during the event. Representatives from Bluebikes will also be available to answer any questions about this bike share service and new stations in the area.

Attendees will enjoy games provided by Peter Rose + Partners, live music from The Spicy Condiments, art from Mad Oyster Studios, a beer garden by Winter Hill Brewing Company, a watermelon-eating contest sponsored by Neighborhood Produce, and a touch-a-truck opportunity featuring City and GLX Constructors equipment.
