Carnivores
The trip to New York was
what one could have expected:
fleshless whores in Times Square
peddling their skeletal remains
cabbies mouthing soundless
invectives at dead pedestrians
trying to cross to their cement
cemeteries where elevators
take them to heaven or hell
alligators came out of the sewers
to devour blind tourists and deaf
mothers whose children abandoned
them for autographed baseballs being
signed outside the last strip joint where
tv talk show hosts battled for interviews
when the moon came out wolves
prowled the streets licking the naked
thighs of young girls being sacrificed
to old men who could afford them
