The first annual Mayor's
Fitness Challenge will kick off with a community health and wellness
fair on Saturday, March 20th from noon – 5:00 p.m. in the Somerville
High School gymnasium. The Challenge, designed to promote healthy
eating choices and active living, will incorporate both a team
competition and a non-competitive "Lifestyle Pledge," with incentives
to visit local Farmers Markets and Shape Up Somerville approved
restaurants, as well as Recreation Department programming and local
fitness centers. Saturday's event will feature live demonstrations
including Salsa Dancing, Yoga and Pilates, as well as participating
local businesses and organizations.

Rep. Carl Sciortino will be holding local office hours in Somerville on
Saturday, March 20th at the Teele Square Café (1153 Broadway) from 3pm
to 4pm. He will be available to meet with constituents, residents and
business owners – who are encouraged to stop in at the office hours to
share concerns, questions and opinions on state and local issues or
simply to chat over a cup of coffee. If you can't make it out that day,

Somerville Housing Authority is sponsoring an Open House on March 18th
from 3pm to 4:30pm and then again on March 20th from 2pm to 4pm at the
new Capen Court elderly housing complex – a brand new construction 95
unit active senior living development for the city. From the outside it

County Register of Probate Tara DeCristofaro is holding a fundraiser at
the Café Escadrille restaurant located at 26 Cambridge Street in
Burlington on Tuesday, March 23. Tara has been doing a great job at the
registry and she is a nice lady that has a great family, so this is an
opportunity for people to meet her and her family.

Condolences
to the Buonopane family for the loss of their mom Massemina. Massemina
was Luigi's mom from Pescatore's Restaurant in Ball Square who loved
dining at the eatery. She was 94 years old and will be missed by many.

Kudos
to the City of Somerville regarding the massive Somerville Avenue
project that has been underway for over a year now. For the first time
in twenty-five or so years, Somerville Avenue didn't flood up by the
LaRonga Bakery area. After the many days of torrential rain that we
had, not only did the Avenue not flood, but neither did many basements
along the strip that have flooded severely in years past.

This
week, the Mayor and Somerville Youth Programming Coordinator Nancy
Bacci announced that applications are now available for the 2010
Mayor's Summer Jobs Program. Eligible students must be Somerville
residents, enrolled in high school, and at least 16 years of age.
Applications will be available through April 30th at the City of
Somerville's Personnel Department at City Hall or on the City's website
at www.somervillema.gov. All applications must be returned to the
Personnel Department.
