The shooting Tuesday night of decorated Somerville police officer Mario Oliveira puts the recent political squabbling into perspective doesn’t it?
Oliveira, who was shot as he served a warrant on Gibbens Street, is one of the leading officers on the force: he worked hard to bring in bad guys but also was known for treating people with kindness and patience.
This city needs more Mario Oliveira’s: leaders who can work with a diverse set of people and organizations to reach a common goal.
Now that the elections are over, this city needs its elected officials to put aside the rivalries and posturing to make Somerville a better place to live and raise families.
