On Friday night, June 7, Assembly Row by Assembly Square kicked off their First Annual 21+ Silent Disco. People 21 and over were seen dancing, laughing, and having an enjoyable time while sporting LED headphone sets. The event was hosted by Boston Free Radio and powered by Quiet Events (the headphone brand provider), with portions of the ticket’s proceeds going to RESPOND Inc.
Three talented and welcoming DJ’s operated the different stations that listeners could choose from by using a small switch on the side of their headphones. The headphones, supplied by Quiet Events were adjustable, comfortable and made with a small orange switch which allowed listeners to change stations.
Three stations were offered: a green station, a blue station and a red station. Dependent upon which genre of choice consumers preferred, the outside of the headphones would glow in correspondence with the station of the listener’s choosing. The music genres ranged from Top 40 (blue), 90’s Throwbacks (red) and Pride classics (green), which supplied a plethora of songs for any dancer to groove to.
The disco was catered by The Smokeshop BBQ which offered an exclusive cash bar, multiple options to satisfy anyone’s barbeque cravings and an extensive drink list. Capital One, Respond Inc., and Fitness Hub were also stationed at the event, handing out coupons, sunglasses, rainbow pride themed necklaces and bubbles.
Mid-way through the disco, the street was packed with people showing off their dance moves and displaying their support for Respond Inc. and pride with rainbow beads shimmering around their necks.
Assembly Row’s first silent disco was a huge success in benefiting New England’s first domestic violence agency, Respond Inc. The profits of the event were given to the agency which was pioneered by four women in 1974 in order to provide shelter for those who were suffering from domestic abuse. Now, the trust trained and dedicated volunteers admirably donate their time to raise awareness about domestic violence and extend resources for those who need help. Respond Inc., has provided life-saving shelter, a crisis hotline, support services, training and education for 40 years in the life-long movement to end domestic violence. “Together,” they promise, “we can end domestic violence.”
If you or a loved one are suffering from domestic violence, RESPOND Inc. is there to help.
