After a slow start, the St. Clement football team has surely caught fire of late.
The Anchormen pounded Marian to a 30-8 win in Saturday’s Catholic Central League matchup last week.
Mike Julce led the way, rushing for 167 yards on 15 carries along with a pair of touchdowns while defensive tackle Ron Charles had 13 tackles, forced a fumble and returned another for a score.
With the win, the Anchormen improved to 3-4 overall.
In the first quarter, the Anchormen capitalized on a turnover as Charles returned a fumble 16-yards into the end zone for a score. A successful pass from Ric Brathwait to Kavion Chambers completed the two point conversion attempt as the Anchormen grabbed an 8-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Julce broke free and increased the lead to 16-0. On the Marian 35-yard line, Julce dodged through a pair of defenders and dashed into the end zone. A James Alphonse run capped the successful two point conversion.
After Marian scored a touchdown to trim the lead to 16-7, the Anchormen added a key insurance touchdown as Julce capped his second touchdown of the contest with a 47-yard run. Securing the win, the Anchorman finalized the scoring midway through the fourth quarter as Alphonse polished off a fine 64-yard touchdown run.
The Anchormen will host Pope John next Saturday at 2 p.m. at Dilboy Field.
