Teddy Francois continued to cause nightmares for the Somerville High football team.
The wideout torched the Highlanders with eight receptions for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Malden cruised to a 21-0 win in Saturday afternoon’s Greater Boston League match-up at Malden High School. With the loss, the Highlanders fell to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the GBL.
Not only did the Highlanders record another crushing loss, but also suffered their fourth shutout defeat of the season. Offensively, the Highlanders were held to only 57-yards.
“We’re not moving the ball well, and you can’t win games, if you can’t score points,” said coach Harry Marchetti. “It’s very frustrating right now, and we need to find a way to get some points on the board.”
After a scoreless first quarter, the Golden Tornadoes grabbed a 7-0 lead midway through the second. Following a quick four play drive, the Golden Tornadoes were faced with a second and short on the Highlander 28 before quarterback Kevin Valley fired a 28-yard strike to Francois into the end zone. Following a Charles St. Jean kick, the Golden Tornadoes grabbed a 7-0 lead.
It stayed that way until the third quarter when the Golden Tornadoes increased the lead to 14-0. Following an eight-play, 68 yard drive, Valley guided the squad into the red zone before Witchie Exilhomme plunged through on a six yard touchdown run, increasing the lead to 14-0.
Securing the win, the Golden Tornadoes added another score in the fourth quarter as Francois hauled in a nine-yard touchdown reception from Valley in the final minutes.
Valley, completed 15 of 22 passes for 205 yards and threw for two touchdowns.
Offensively, the Highlanders were guided by Jonathan Scarry, who rushed for 28 yards while quarterback Rob Pratt completed four of six passes for 25 yards.
The Highlanders will take to the field next Friday night when they’ll challenge top ranked Everett on the road.
“It’s been a tough schedule for us,” said Marchetti. “We’re hoping we’ll be able to put together some good drives and a good showing against a great team.”
