Life in the Ville by Jimmy Del Ponte
The Ball Square bridge is closed. The detours seem to be working smoothly. Just for kicks, I threw a question out there. It read: “Name, or change a song/title dedicated to the Ball Sq. bridge closure and other detours in Somerville … I’ll start … Bridge Over Troubled … Train Tracks!”
Of course, we all hope that the detours will be painless and not too stressful, l but in the meantime we can have a little fun. Here are the songs that my friends came up with:
Signs signs everywhere are signs, blocking out Broadway blowing my mind! Get ya motor runnin’, ride out on the Ville way, swearing at the wheel, and whatever you go under! You’ve got me going in circles. Do you know, where you’re going to? The theme song from the Benny Hill show. CRAZY, I‘m crazy for driving In Somerville! Baby you can drive my car (cause I’m hoofing it). Under the bridge. Jesus take the wheel. I will Survive ! Crosstown Traffic. On the distress-way.
Ball Square bridge is falling down, falling down. On the highway to Hell. Turn around Drivers. Total u-turn of your car! It’s only just begun! (Never gonna be) easy like Sunday morning! I think I’m in trouble. NOT the expressway to my heart. The night the roads went down in Somerville. Who let the cones out? One way out. Stuck in Ball Square with you. I walk the … Green … Line.
Where do I go, follow the detours. The long and winding detour. Train kept a rolling. Welcome to my nightmare. We gotta get outta this place. You got me going in circles. Bridge of sighs. Taking care of business and working overtime! (that one is for the police details.) Finally,
Help! Turn, Turn, Turn, and Slow Ride.
And if we get frustrated due to lines of detoured traffic remember, slow down, and take it easy.
Please continue to support the businesses in Ball Square.
