The annual Maple Syrup Boil Down takes place Saturday, March 16, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the South Street Farm, 138 South Street. Each winter, Groundwork Somerville taps local sugar maple trees on Tufts Campus and collects the sap with volunteers from the community. The Boil Down is a chance to experience the process of boiling sap into maple syrup and to connect with our community. There will be local sap and syrup tasting, maple tapping and boiling demos, pancakes, hot cider, merchandise and live music. free and open to the public. The Duhamel Education Initiative (DEI) hosts its 23rd Annual Pancake Breakfast spring fundraiser on Saturday, March 30, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the First Church Somerville, 89 College Avenue. Funds from this annual fun family event support drop-out prevention as well as new and innovative programs in the Somerville Public Schools. The entire family is invited to join the fun and enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast prepared and served by members of the Somerville School Committee. Suggested donation is $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, $5 for children, or $25 for a family. Reservations are not necessary, just come by to enjoy good food and wonderful camaraderie while at the same time supporting a great cause. In case of questionable weather, please phone Doris McDaniel at 857-205-8374 or Larry Siraco at 617-447-1529 to confirm that the breakfast will be taking place. Board Game Nights, hosted by East Somerville Main Streets, will take place Monday, March 18, 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Casey’s Bar, 173 Broadway. The Somerville Museum will be hosting Trans/Lucent/See, Thursday, March 21, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., 1 Westwood Rd. Somerville-based artist collective Excavate, currently in a 9-month research and performance residency at the deCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, will perform a celebration of a recent gift to the Somerville Museum and Historic Somerville: A Somerville-made Union Glass doorknob. This performance is associated with the current exhibit, Our Stories, Our Stuff, Our Somerville.

The Bands for Baseball fundraising raffle, hosted by Somerville Little League and Union Tavern, will be held on Saturday, March 23, 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Union Tavern, 345 Somerville Ave. It’s the fourth annual Bands for Baseball fundraiser event. Come check out great local bands like the Haymakers, the Angel Martins and the Holey Knees. All proceeds to benefit SLL. They will also be hosting a knockout raffle with a grand prize of at least $5,000 (and as much as $10,000). Post-prize money will go to SLL. Join the Somerville Special Education Parent Advisory Council for a workshop on the Massachusetts Anti-Bullying Law on Monday, March 25, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at East Somerville Community School. The workshop will also focus on school-wide efforts to create safe and supportive school environments for students with disabilities and provisions that require IEP Teams to address the bullying of students with disabilities.
