Southern comfort food is what is served up here at the Southern Kin Cookhouse. Saturday and Sunday brunch is available from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. along with a full lunch menu.
Upon entering, off to the right is the bar area. It’s about half the length of the restaurant where you will find over 100 American whisky and Kentucky bourbon choices for any of the old fashioned and even traditional style cocktail offerings.
A must try, only available during weekend brunch is the Carolina Bloody Mary, a spicy cocktail using whiskey instead of the traditional vodka. Just as a side note, the traditional Bloody Mary is also available.
This is a great place for small group gatherings for celebrations of birthdays, etc. Always a friendly staff and excellent service.
Starting off with the skillet cornbread is a good idea. Crispy on the outside, soft and slightly creamy on the inside, served with a honey butter and strawberry jam.
The devilish eggs are a spin on the classic deviled eggs using a creole mayo, truffle, a hint of cayenne and topped off with pickled Fresno chilies, a really nice festive presentation and a delicious compilation of flavors.
The eggs benedict is served over a southern biscuit featuring perfectly poached eggs smothered in a bright hollandaise sauce with slices of ham and a side of creamy white cheddar grits.
Frogmore stew, shrimp and grits, crawdad gumbo, chicken and waffles, collards, mac and cheese, ribs, wings, biscuits and gravy, and the list goes on. There are gluten free and vegetarian options available on selected items. They also take reservations. See the website for a full menu list.
