Opened for a little over a month, Mortadella Head, located in Davis Square offers an abundance of items on their menu that’s sure to please everyone’s taste buds.
You will find a variety of traditional items including salads, pasta, pizza both regular and Roman styles, sandwiches, such as chicken Parmesan, porchetta, mortadella, meatballs, and some unique creations, including the Pig and Fig featuring prosciutto, poached pear, Gorgonzola, fig jam, mixed greens, house vinaigrette and a balsamic glaze or the Poor Ragazzo with fried calamari, banana peppers, shredded lettuce, marinated tomato, Pecorino, garlic aioli and Calabrian chili mayo.
Upon entering this very inviting “hole in the wall,” which seats about 16, you immediately notice some pretty funky murals on the walls, along with a 6-foot counter displaying quite the selection of pizza. The staff is very friendly and are well versed in all items on the menu.
On this visit I tried the Reuben and the chicken Parmesan sandwiches. All sandwiches are served on a braided, oblong sesame roll that is light and very soft and holds all ingredients and is easy to bite into.
Although the Reuben was not served on the traditional rye bread, the pastrami, sauerkraut, 1000 island and Swiss cheese were prominent in this flavorful sandwich.
The chicken cutlet in the chicken Parmesan sandwich was tender and juicy, the marinara was flavorful and the melted provolone was tangy and gooey.
Both sandwiches came with house made rosemary potato chips and your choice of giardiniera (pickled vegetables) or pasta fagioli.
Call ahead for takeout. I highly recommend checking out the menu online at MortadellaHead.com prior to planning your visit. You can also follow them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram @mortadellahead.
