The Rite Aid on Winter Hill spent a few days converting over to Walgreens. We, like many in the neighborhood, enjoyed going to Rite Aid. The pharmacists are fantastic and they really do help people out. The only consolation is that the same pharmacy people will still be there to serve everyone, just under a different business name.

Happy birthday this week to several locals: Happy birthday to Amanda Fee, a good friend here in the city. We wish her the very best on her birthday. Happy birthday to Bruce Taylor, the former owner of ERA Key Realty Services, now ERA Hunt. We have known Bruce a long time. He’s a nice guy and we wish him well in his retirement. Happy birthday to Walter Wedlock, who is celebrating this week as well. A great guy himself. We hope he has a great day. Happy birthday to everyone here and from the city who is celebrating this week. We wish every one of them a very happy birthday.

Good luck to someone from one of Somerville’s oldest families. Bill Chambers, who is running for VP of the Lawrence Rod and Gun Club in So. Lawrence. A dedicated and great member of the club, we wish him well in his re-election.

Have you thought you’d like to do some writing, a little story about Somerville as either a newbie or Villen? We have about 80K people and we would love to hear about your adventures here in the city. Maybe you want to write about a particular subject like our Bob Doherty and Dorothy DiMarzio, or like Jimmy Del Ponte with his stories about the city. Or maybe you’d like to express your opinion like Bill Shelton. Not just the politicians, but those from our community. Give us a call at 617-666-4010 or email news@thesomervilletimes.com and tell us about your idea. We would love to tell it to the rest of Somerville.

Miss watching the Board of Aldermen meetings on TV? You can view them in their entirety on Comcast channel 22, as well as on YouTube. Watch your city at work and see how these dedicated members of our community are serving you, the public. We can’t say this enough, watch the meetings on either cable broadcast live, or go online to YouTube to watch them. You will find some pretty hysterical information there about what’s happening in the city. This should be required viewing for everyone who cares about what is happening here. Even the committee meetings are online. After all, the Board of Aldermen is voting to spend your money. Wow, the raises some department heads are getting. Ask yourself, if you own property has your taxes gone down or stayed the same over the past 14 years? And do you remember what they kept telling us what the benefit of Assembly Square would be to our tax base? Watch and remember. Don’t let a small minority of a certain group run our city, be aware of what is going on, and VOTE.

Why is the green line being extended up into Medford? Why are we building tracks for the green line when the commuter rail tracks are already there? Why not just build the stations and the commuter rail will just stop at these stations? Between North Station and West Medford, there is approximately 10 miles with no stops. It doesn’t make sense to me to install railroad tracks………next to existing tracks. Build the stations – this will create jobs….though maybe not as many……but it will save money to be used for other important projects. Also no Ball Square bridge to close. Extend the green line into Union Square – that makes sense.

Why is someone asking basic questions about the GLX after it being in the planning stages for something like 30 years? Good news is it’s happening and I can just kind of laugh at stuff like this.
