Groundwork Somerville’s one and only annual public event at their urban growing space will include fresh apple cider tasting and other free fall festivities
Somerville, MA: Groundwork Somerville is announcing its highly anticipated annual Cider Day Party. Join them on Thursday, October 25th, 2018 from 4:00-6:00 PM at South Street Farm, 138 South St, Somerville.
Fall in New England means apple harvesting, crisp air, and colorful leaves. This is your chance to celebrate it all right here in the city! Community members of all ages are invited to partake in fall festivities at Somerville’s only farm, including apple cider pressing and tasting, free food, face painting, games, live music, and much more!
Nestled between Union and Inman Squares, in the most densely populated city in New England, South Street Farm serves as a platform to innovate and share techniques for urban food production. The quarter-acre of growing space yields 2,000 lbs of produce each season, with a focus on “World Crops”–vegetables and fruits not easily accessible in this area, specifically requested by Somerville’s immigrant communities. Groundwork Somerville’s Green Team, volunteers, World Crops Mentor Farmers, and staff have been hard at work all season cultivating organic-style produce and selling it back to the community at the Somerville Mobile Farmers Market.
Whether you’ve been to South Street Farm several times or never knew it existed, Groundwork Somerville is excited to invite all community members to experience this urban farming oasis in the height of its fall beauty and celebrate the end of a successful growing season.
