Mr. Irving E. Johansen, of Somerville, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

Beloved husband of the late Margaret V. (Barter) Johansen. Loving father of Robert R. Johansen and his wife Nancy of Barnstable and Diane M. Johansen of Somerville. Brother of the late Arthur W. Johansen. Dear grandfather of Christine DeBlois of RI, Karen Sullivan of NH and great grandfather of Molly and Abigail. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours to be held at the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, Sunday 2-5pm. A Funeral Service will take place at the First Baptist Church, 34 Oakland Street, Medford, MA 02155, Monday morning at 10am. Relatives and friends invited. Interment private.

Elmer was a 72 year member of King Solomon’s Lodge in Somerville and Mystic Valley Lodge in Arlington. He is a Past Master of King Solomon’s Lodge and Mystic Valley Lodge, a Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Arlington 6th Masonic District and he received his 50-Year Veteran’s Medal in 1996 and a Distinguished Service Medal in 2001.

Also involved in many civic and charitable organizations.
