The City of Somerville’s annual vigil walk, in honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, took place on Tuesday evening, September 11.

The vigil began with a procession starting from the Cedar Street intersection of the Community Path, and concluded with a short ceremony in Davis Square.

City and state officials walked and stood alongside members of the general public, sharing their thoughts and feelings and showing solidarity in our support for those who passed and the survivors who remain.

Police, fire, and emergency responders were on hand for the ceremony, marching in formation to join the gathering.

Public officials and invited guests took turns speaking and sharing their thoughts about the terrible events that took place 17 years ago.

Attendees left flowers and tokens of love and respect at the Davis Square marker.
