A three-time shoplifter stole a bottle of grape vodka from a Davis Square liquor store Oct. 14 and gave officers a wrong name after they cuffed him, police said.

Bruce Quick, 23, of 12 Harvard Ave., was arrested and charged with shoplifting after Somerville police officer James McNally saw him scrape a price tag off the bottle after exiting Downtown Liquors, police said.

“The manner in which the defendant produced the bottle and immediately scraped off the price tag, in my opinion and training and experience, led me to believe that the defendant shoplifted the bottle from Downtown Wine & Sprits,” McNally wrote in his incident report.

McNally recognized a female with Quick from his work with the gang unit, police said.

Clerks at the liquor store allegedly told police a man fitting Quick’s description did not buy anything at the store.

Quick told McNally he bought the bottle of vodka at Downtown Wine and Spirits, police said. He was arrested and charged with shoplifting, his third offense, police said.

As he was being booked, Quick allegedly gave police a false name. He was charged with furnishing a false name.
