Kelsey Garrity, a three sport athlete and also a two sport captain in basketball and football was named this year's Homecoming queen on Friday night. In Friday night's contest, the Highlanders romped to a 35-8 win over Medford.

On a night where there was a homecoming king and queen, the Somerville High School football team was king on the gridiron.

Skerby Odivin rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Joshua Scarry also rushed for a score as the Highlanders cruised to a 35 to 8 win over the Medford Mustangs in Friday night’s windswept contest at Dilboy Field. With the win, the Highlanders improved to 2-3 overall.

Only two plays into the contest, the Highlanders grabbed an 8-0 lead as Scarry scampered for a 48-yard run into in the end zone. Following the two-point conversion, the Highlanders grabbed an 8-0 lead.

On the ensuing drive, the Mustangs drove into Highlander territory, but several key defensive stops along with a tackle by Brian Simeon handed the Highlanders the ball.

Led by Odivin, the Highlanders grabbed a 16-0 lead. Odivin delivered rushes of 21 and 39 yards before scampering to a 10-yard touchdown run into the end zone. Another successful two point conversion guided the way for a 16-0 lead.

Guided by several strong rushes, the Highlanders created another scoring run en route to a commanding 23-0 lead. Positioned at the Mustang 42, Zach Sciuto broke through several tacklers and raced into the end zone for a 42-yard touchdown run.

Continuing to add to the scoring, the Highlanders recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff as Devin Hairston cruised into the end zone en route to a 29-0 lead.

Following another Mustang turnover, the Highlanders capped the first half scoring as Eddy Maldonado broke free for a 37-yard touchdown run en route a 35-0 half time lead. With the game well in hand, the Mustangs averted the shutout with a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Offensively, the Highlanders recorded 460 yards on the ground while allowing the Mustangs managed 140 total yards, and just 43 in the first half.

The Highlanders will take to the field next Friday night when they’ll host St. John’s Prep at Dilboy Field.
